Milk and Honey

Bois d'Argent

Christian Dior’s Bois d’Argent is a recent acquisition for me. I read a description that it smelled “rich” and couldn’t quite wrap my head around what that could mean. Nouveau rich? Because that is not appealing. Nouveau rich smells like bad cigars and Paris Hilton. Not good. Old money, then? Perhaps… but old money brings to mind stately classics like Chanel No. 5 or Lanvin’s Arpege. I ordered a small sample and… rich? Yes, but not exactly in a bankrolled sense.

Bois d’Argent is like honey and fresh cream. There’s a sweetness that first overpowers the musky leather and cypress wood notes. The honey quickly mellows, though, and develops into a richer, creamier scent with fabulous staying power. It smells like champagne looks: effervescent, celebratory, and just a touch decadent. It smells like a pearl necklace with an ornate golden clasp. It smells like an early Mozart piece, buoyant but still intricate. There’s the richness to me – the creamy luxe that continues to charm.
